<![CDATA[Standard Written English - Blog]]>Sun, 21 Feb 2016 09:00:48 -0800Weebly<![CDATA[INFP and HSP]]>Sat, 20 Feb 2016 13:39:01 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/infp-and-hspIf you know what those two acronyms mean then this post will probably resonate with you. The first one, I am an INFP, which is one of the 16 personality types made famous by the Myers-Briggs Personality Test. The second one is HSP, which stands for Highly Sensitive Person. I realized that my child is also an HSP and so is another member of my family. It is a hereditary gene. So why am I talking about both of these things? For me, they are so deeply ingrained in who I am. It is so helpful to know why I am the way I am. So helpful to know why I am so sensitive, why I can't watch the news or watch scary, bloody movies. It is so helpful to know that I am not alone in the fact that I get overwhelmed easily in life. This is not a deficiency. It is a blessing to know and to be able to find resources that can help me and to find other people who are like me.

Here are some sites that explain the Myers-Briggs Personality test.
Here is one where you can take the test.
This one is just for INFP's

Here are some sites for HSP, Highly Sensitive People,, just like me.
Here's a great site for HSP's.

<![CDATA[Happy 2016!]]>Sat, 02 Jan 2016 20:19:08 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/happy-2016Happy New Year! I am not writing resolutions this year. I am strengthening my goals from last year and focusing on the area that I need to work on that has long been neglected. I am fond of focusing on goals in three categories: mind, body and spirit. This year I have decided is the Year of Sharon. That is a personal spin off The Year of Yes by Shonda Rimes. It is an excellent book and I have given her book a lot of thought. She is not me and I am not her so the things that worked for her will not work for me. This is my year, all about me and so the name, "The Year of Sharon" seemed like a good place to start. The focus for me in The Year of Sharon...Body. An idea I did steal from "The Year of Yes" is that I am not a brain floating around not attached to anything. I have a body and at 41 years old it is the year to focus on getting this body into a healthy physical shape.
<![CDATA[And the winner is....]]>Sun, 29 Nov 2015 18:09:37 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/and-the-winner-isPicture

I won Nanowrimo this year! I just finished one day early with 50,084 words. That's about 80 pages and I am not quite finished with my novel but it is getting close to the end. I am so proud of my accomplishment. I worked hard and sacrificed time with my family and friends this year to put my writing first. I wrote on Thanksgiving. I wrote the day after Thanksgiving when my family went out for the afternoon, I chose to stay behind and write for two and a half hours. I feel blessed and lucky this year that I finally committed to myself and my dream.
Check out Nanowrimo.org for more information on this amazing project that I have tried to finish for five years and never did until this year!

<![CDATA[Blog Post]]>Tue, 10 Nov 2015 02:13:58 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/blog-postThis is a blog post.
This is a blog post during NaNoWriMo.
This is what it looks like to procrastinate during Nanowrimo.
Goodbye blog post.

<![CDATA[Another Nanowrimo is here]]>Mon, 02 Nov 2015 03:41:19 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/another-nanowrimo-is-here1It is November 1st at 10:30 pm and I just finished 1,679 words. I hit my daily word count. My goal is to get up earlier than usual, meaning don't go back to asleep when my alarm goes off, and go right to my writing room, open up this laptop and start writing. If I want to make this writing thing more than something i just talk about and dream about, I need to do it. No excuses. Excuses Begone, thank you Wayne Dyer!

To be continued...Day 1 Nanowrimo 2015
<![CDATA[Preparation]]>Wed, 28 Oct 2015 11:11:58 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/preparationThis is the time of preparation for NaNoWriMo. I anticipate it every year. I agonize over it. I know what I am going to write about this year. I am trying to clear my schedule so that I have lots of uninterrupted writing time. It's only 5 days away. I get excited over this every year. This is the time. This is the year. I will finish NaNoWriMo!

To be continued...
<![CDATA[Too long]]>Mon, 22 Jun 2015 23:39:39 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/too-longIt has been way too long since I have blogged. I have missed it. It is almost the end of the school year. The time when I contemplate and think and change gears and try to do a lot of writing. I also do a lot of swimming, sailing, taking walks, going on vacation and general hanging out. Summer is a very short season in which I try to cram everything I haven't done all school year long in as much as possible. I will finally be able to go to the Farmer's market. I will finally be able to schedule an appointment at 1:30 in the afternoon. I will finally be able to pick up and go the beach for the day when the weather dictates that being in or near water is the only option. I will finally be able to breathe a sigh of relief that the 2014-2015 school year is behind me. In just three days...
<![CDATA[Another NANOWRIMO is here]]>Wed, 05 Nov 2014 01:16:17 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/another-nanowrimo-is-here 9 ways to procrastinate writing a novel in 30 days

1. Go furniture shopping to find the “perfect” writing chair for my writing room.

2. Get a cold and not start even writing for the first two days (almost not starting at all)

3. Look up pep talks from this year on the Nanowrimo website and read them

4. When this year’s peptalks are done start looking up last year’s peptalks and continue to read then and also check out each author’s website

5. Research the disappearance of my hair stylist. Her salon is still there but the phone is disconnected one day and now it just keeps ringing. I must get to the bottom of this mystery or I’ll have a perpetual bad hair day

6. Instead of writing the novel, spend time thinking about the need to outline and plot the novel, but not actually doing that either

7. Watch many more episodes of “Breaking Bad”

8. Spend time printing out colorful signs that say, “NANOWRIMO 1,6667 words per day” and hang them near my desk

9. Work on a list of procrastination techniques to put up on my blog

I am a little behind...about a day or so, 1,700 words or so. It's ok, I can still make it. I want to be a winner this year and say to everyone and shout on the blogosphere,"I DID IT! I am a NANOWRIMO 2014 winner!!!!!" SoI'll get back to writing now. TTFN!

<![CDATA[Camp NaNoWriMo]]>Tue, 01 Jul 2014 21:14:55 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/camp-nanowrimoI had no idea there even was a Camp NaNoWriMo. I am so excited. This makes so much more sense to me than doing NaNoWriMo in November although that is still a good challenge to work on. Since I am a teacher and I don't have to work in the summer, Camp NaNoWriMo (which is essentially the same as November NaNoWriMo but in July) is a perfect option for me. My goal is still to work on doing 500 words a day instead of 1,667 a day but the premise is the same...to write every day. So here it is, July 1st, day one of Camp NaNoWriMo, I'm ready to begin! Get out the s'mores and start up the campfire, Camp NaNoWriMo here I come!
<![CDATA[Almost Done]]>Wed, 18 Jun 2014 23:26:32 GMThttp://www.standardwrittenenglish.com/blog/almost-doneI can feel the anticipation from the students, the teachers, the bus drivers. Everyone knows the end is near. The end of June is a funny time of year. We say goodbye to old friends and familiarity and hello to summer and possible new places and faces in September. I am ready for the daily grind to be done for awhile. I need a fresh start and a good, long break. I'm ready to start writing again and start tending to things I have overlooked for far too long. Goodbye June and school, hello summer!!
